Scout Holdings Group Founder Graduates from Business Leadership Program

Jamie Carr, CEO and founder of Scout Holdings Group, recently celebrated her graduation from Leadership Lafayette. The annual program is organized by the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce to train emerging leaders through education, networking and community service.

“It was valuable to network with other professionals around Oxford. That was my number one motivating factor,” Carr said. “I was also grateful to just get out in the community and grow my leadership skills.”

As part of Leadership Lafayette’s 30th class, Carr had the chance to meet a wide range of professionals from businesses and organizations around Lafayette County, including the University of Mississippi, Baptist Memorial Hospital and CoreLogic | FNC.

Leadership Lafayette’s curriculum consists of two parts. First, the class attends lectures to learn from local leaders, tours area businesses and participates in hands-on workshops.
One workshop, led by the University of Mississippi ROTC program, was particularly memorable for Carr. It involved trying to cross the room—without touching the ground and only using a few pieces of wood, some rope and a couple washrags. No easy task.

With her help, Carr’s team ended up figuring out a way to pass the obstacles with record speed. Even the ROTC leader, who’d led the workshop for years, was impressed.
“I try to be a very out-of-the-box thinker. I don’t always approach problems how most people would,” she said, laughing. “That helped me with this workshop, and it helps a lot when it comes to real estate, too.”

Participants end the program by coming together in groups to lead community-oriented projects that support local nonprofits. Carr’s team organized a fundraiser for Memory Makers, which provides support and programming for caregivers and individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

“What people will really remember about you is your character and how you cared for other people,” she said. “My hope is that our fundraiser had a positive and lasting impact on the people Memory Makers serves.”
